On September 26 this year the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed the Resolution “On celebrating Ramadan Hayit (Eid al-Fitr)”, according to the local news agencies.

In particular, the text of the Resolution has read as follows:

Taking into account the role and significance of the sacred Ramadan Hayit in spiritual life of our people, as well as in line with the Decree of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On announcing Ruza Hayit a day off” No.UP-368 of March 27, 1992.

1. Considering the proposal of the Board of Muslims of Uzbekistan that the first day of Ramadan Hayit coincides with October 1, 2008 this day shall be broadly celebrated in the country as a holiday.

2. The Republican Fund “Nuroniy”, “Makhalla”, Public Youth Movement “Kamolot” and other respective agencies and public organizations in an organized way and at high level in line with national values of our people shall take necessary measures on the occasion with marking Ramadan Hayit at the local levels.

3. The National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, National News Agency of Uzbekistan and other mass media outlets shall broadly cover measures related to celebrations of Ramadan Hayit.
