Just several days part the Uzbek people from their major and landmark celebrations for the fall this year – the 18th anniversary of Independence and the 2200th anniversary jubilee of the glorious city of Tashkent – the capital of sovereign Uzbekistan – on September 1 and 2, respectively.

Both townspeople, Uzbek citizens from elsewhere in the nation and the foreign visitors are now the eyewitnesses of enormous changes taking place in Uzbekistan and particularly in its capital city of Tashkent.

Places are bettered with new sites being erected and old ones being renovated. Yet presidential decision to confer on Tashkent the Mustakillik Order – one of the significant national awards – serves as another major step in recognition of the role of Tashkent in making of the Uzbek statehood and its development for over the many years – both in history and sovereign period of growth.

On August 21 this year all of the major national newspapers published the text of the Decree signed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, entitled “On conferring on the city of Tashkent the Mustakillik Order”.

“In recognition of the substantial contribution to the making of the national statehood, construction of the independent law-governed democratic state, consolidation of peace and stability, development of the interstate cooperation, friendship between the peoples, in recognition of the enormous merits in preserving the kind traditions, raising the level of cultural, spiritual and enlightenment life, upbringing the young generation in the spirit of love to Homeland, national and universal values and on the occasion of the 2200th anniversary jubilee the city of Tashkent shall be awarded the Mustakillik order,” the text of the Decree has read, in particular.
