The traditional Week Information and Communication Technologies Week InfoCom 2011 opened in Uzbekistan. It includes a number of events and presents interest for both ICT specialists and the general public.

One of the first events of the ICT Week was the Uzbek-Korean IT development conference held on Monday. Apart from the specialists from the two countries, experts from Azerbaijan and Russia also participated in the forum.

The topics discussed at the conference included use of IT in education and science, economy and state management, wireless internet access and mobile networks, and others, UzA informs.

Another event was the awarding of the winners of the national domain UZ internet festival. The internet festivals have been held in Uzbekistan since 2001. Their goal is popularizing the internet in the country and stimulation of the creators of the best online resources.

This year’s contest included 14 thematic and 2 special nominations, including the Best small and private business website and the Best thematic website.

A total of 1,000 applications were submitted to this year’s contest, which is more than in the previous years. More than half of the sites participated in the festival for the first time.

Other events of the ICT Week are the National ICT Summit, which will be held on 27 September, and the National exhibition ICTExpo 2011.
