First major event of 2012 — VIII international tournament of the
President of Uzbekistan included in the competition calendar of the
International Kurash Association was held in the city of Thessalonike
(Greece).
The national team of Uzbekistan has become the leader in the group C,
beating Tajikistan with 3-0 during the Asian qualifiers for the World
Cup 2014 to be held in Brazil.
At the international tournament of rhythmic gymnastics, held in Moscow,
Russia, Uzbek gymnasts from Samarkand and Navoi regions won the main
prizes of the contest, competing with more than 250 athletes from over
10 countries.
Nasaf football club (Karshi, Uzbekistan) for the first time in the
history of Uzbek football won the main prize of the Asian Football
Confederation Cup.

The Uzbek grandmaster Rustam Kasimdzhanov (pictured above) won the top
prize of the first Central Asian Chess Cup held in Tashkent.
The 10th Hakim at-Termizi international tournament in kurash for the
prize of the President of Uzbekistan and the 8th international kurash
championship among adults completed in Termez, Surkhandarya region.
The first Central Asian chess cup started in Tashkent on Tuesday with
participation of about 70 players from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Uzbekistan football youth team celebrated three victories in a row in
the group C qualifying matches for the upcoming 2012 FIFA World Cup
among juniors under the age of 16 held in Tashkent.
International Canoe Federation named Vadim Menkov, the member of the
Uzbekistan national team and two-times world champion, the world’s best
canoeist for the third time.
Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan is participating in the Women’s Tennis
Association (WTA) series international tournament in the Italian city
of Palermo.
